Different drive levels are definitely worth exploring. I find that in driving the line input with a live music signal preamplified by a audio mixer if I set the PTR1 recording level to 10 or 12 and then adjust the output of the mixer to provide a "good" signal on the PTR1 it often results in a distorted recording. I have confirmed this with a sighted person monitoring the recording LEDs to confirm that there are no loud peaks present. However, if I set the recording level on the PTR1 to 18 or 19 and adjust the output of the mixer to provide a "good" level on the PTR1 the distortion is avoided.
Frank Cuta Hi, Different mics/combinations of recording volume plus using line in/preamps are worth playing with. Also it could be you need a mic for recording in a broad area. Surprisingly I find that the internal mic can sometimes pick up things that the external mic can't, partly due to the auto gain on this. I would like to use the PTR1 to record the rehearsal but when I used an external microphone, the pickup was very poor even when I pushed the line in to max. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to improve the recording pickup? Do you think a different microphone would help? If so, which one?
