No Dory, they are very different. MP3 has become the de facto standard for 
compressed audio files. There are several sampling rates now in use. 
Practically all CD players today can recognize and play MP3 recordings. The 
DAISY standard is a whole nuther animal. It is a specification / standard 
for encoding books for ease of navigation, primarily for visually impaired 
persons and others prevented from reading conventional print books by 
physical handicap, dyslexia, etc.

That's the DAISY low-down in a nutshell.
