Thanks for the quick reply...even though not quite the reply I was
hoping for!  I'll treat this as a broken package and assume whatever
weird or broken behavior is just the way it is for now.  The package
update and installed package listing does indeed seem broken, but I've
had some success with getting the ipkg install command to install s/w
updates on my target system, so I think it might still offer some value
to me.

I'll only be able to spend as much time on it as is necessary for
meeting the requirements of my project, but I'll post if I do anything
that might be useful.
