and +1 for an XBL primer. A developer needs how and when use XBL. Seeing
the specification is not so clear for a developer ... what is the aim
and power of XBL

Whilst it's not really a primer as such, the paper that accompanied my
talk at XTech this year (called "Building Rich, Encapsulated Widgets
Using XBL, XForms and SVG") gives one view of the power and purpose of
XBL, as well as a walkthrough of producing recursive rich widgets:
