Hi Eric,

As listed at http://esw.w3.org/topic/HCLSIG_BioRDF_Subgroup, the old BioRDF
objectives were:
1. Build a life sciences demo that spans from bench to bedside using RDF and OWL to gain a stronger understanding as to the work required. 2. Explore the effectiveness of current tools for making data available as RDF/OWL. 3. Document our finding to help accelerate the adoption of the Semantic Web by others.

While these old objectives look reasonable to me, we are going to review them
with the group when the BioRDF group re-starts in September, and that we would
value your contribution in this process. The main focus of BioRDF for the
immediate future is to enhance the HCLS KB. As part of the enhancement, we
would like to incorporate new data sets that help the KB span from bench to
bedside. We are interested in broadening the community of users who have skills
to add data to the KB. We are interested in increasing the value and use of the
HCLS KB by identifying scientific use cases, working on a human-friendly UI,
exploring mechanisms for updating the data sources, and adding new data sets.

Cheers,

-Kei

Hi Kei, Susie,

Can you point me to the new objectives of BioRDF-- been out of the loop for a while and would like to see our new directions based on our earlier lessons learned.

cheers,
Eric

We're very pleased to announce that Kei Cheung is going to be
        coordinating
the BioRDF task going forwards. Kei has been a very active
        participant in
BioRDF to date, and most notably led work on the conversion of
        SenseLab to
        RDF/OWL.

The BioRDF group will be taking the lead on extending the HCLS
        KB. Thoughts
for the extensions include creating a visual interface, providing
mechanisms to more easily update the data, and the
        incorporation of new
types of data including chemical and drug data. In addition,
        the group will
identify scientific use cases to prioritize some of the
        extensions.

Kei would like to give the group a break over July and August,
        so the first
call will be on September 8 2008.

More information about the BioRDF task is available at:

        Cheers,

        Susie, Scott, Chime
