Henrik Lindberg commented on HI-341   Re: Hiera should support native HOCON to match Puppet Server I find it really strange that .conf files are used for "data" as the name indicates intent (configuration). I think .conf should be reserved for configuration files (there the content-schema is implied by the name), and that we use .hocon for everything else (generic hocon data, possibly under the control of some unspecified schema). I think the distinction will also help when talking about the files - what does "my hiera conf file" refer to?, my hiera file containing data for puppet named "puppet.conf", etc. Using hiera.conf instead of hiera.yaml is a lengthier discussion - so, separate tickets needed.
