Issue #11823 has been updated by Hennadiy Rez.

Actually it reports "virtual" now. I think it got fixed after I installed lspci 
and dmidecode which were not there. If that's the case, perhaps error message 
indicating absence of lspci and dmidecode is warranted.

Running Vmware VM with Centos 6.2 facter reports as physical.

1.6.4

#facter virtual is_virtual
is_virtual => **false**
virtual => **physical**

x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

#cat /etc/redhat-release
