In theory, a HW watchdog is considered more reliable than softdog.

In practice, softdog works extremely well, and HW watchdogs fail because
of miss-configuration or IPMI bios bugs...

So IMHO you do not get much added value using ipmi_watchdog.

But this is more a feeling - I do not have numbers.
