Last night when I booted the old laptop back to Linux, I got stereo from pvrusb2. I then powered off the laptop and PVR-USB2 and rebooted and the stereo still works. I've pasted the log info below. This is a 2.6.15 kernel. No ivtv installed at all. I didn't update v4l.
Still no stereo on the original desktop. When I send Stereo/Mono to the ctl_audio_mode, I think what I'm hearing is the tuner switching between Stereo/Mono. The mono sound is cleaner and stronger because the airy-hissy sound from the FM antenna is gone, but both are mono. I have two laptops, but the other one has a 2.4.x kernel so I can't try that easily. Any suggestions? Should I yank out the internal PVR-150 as a test? This is the log and debug from the laptop now that it mysteriously gets stereo: rickmvnote:~# cat /sys/class/pvrusb2/*/debuginfo big lock free; ctl lock free driver flags: initialized ok connected Subsystems enabled / configured: +ENC_FIRMWARE +ENC_CFG +DIG_RUN +USB_RUN +ENC_RUN Subsystems disabled / unconfigured: Attached I2C modules: MSP3445G-B8 @ 0x40 (handler: pvrusb2-audio v4l1) [v4l1_standard v4l1_volume v4l1_freq] i2c IR (Hauppauge) @ 0x18 [v4l2_standard v4l2_audiomode v4l2_bcsh v4l2_volume v4l2_freq v4l2_size v4l2_log] Philips NTSC MK3 (FM1236MK3 or FM1236/F) @ 0x61 (handler: pvrusb2-tuner) [v4l2_standard v4l2_audiomode v4l2_bcsh v4l2_volume v4l2_freq v4l2_size v4l2_log] tda9887 @ 0x43 (handler: pvrusb2-demod) [v4l2_standard v4l2_audiomode v4l2_bcsh v4l2_volume v4l2_freq v4l2_size v4l2_log] tveeprom @ 0x50 [v4l2_standard v4l2_audiomode v4l2_bcsh v4l2_volume v4l2_freq v4l2_size v4l2_log] saa7115 @ 0x21 (handler: pvrusb2-video-v4l (old routing)) [v4l2_standard v4l2_audiomode v4l2_bcsh v4l2_volume v4l2_freq v4l2_size v4l2_ Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: usbcore: registered new driver pvrusb2 Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: /usr/local/src/pvrusb2/pvrusb2-mci-20070121/driver/pvrusb2-main.c: Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-USB2 MPEG2 Encoder/Tuner : 20070121 (from www.isely.net) Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: /usr/local/src/pvrusb2/pvrusb2-mci-20070121/driver/pvrusb2-main.c: Debug mask is 15 (0xf) Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: usb 1-1: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: msp3400 0-0040: chip=MSP3445G-B8 +nicam +simple +simpler +radio mode=simpler Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: msp3400 0-0040: msp34xxg daemon started Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: input: i2c IR (Hauppauge) as /class/input/input4 Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: tuner 0-0061: chip found @ 0xc2 (pvrusb2_a) Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: tda9887 0-0043: chip found @ 0x86 (pvrusb2_a) Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: saa7115 0-0021: saa7115 found @ 0x42 (pvrusb2_a) Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: tveeprom 0-0050: Hauppauge model 29032, rev D158, serial# 7570160 Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: tveeprom 0-0050: tuner model is Philips FM1236 MK3 (idx 58, type 43) Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: tveeprom 0-0050: TV standards NTSC(M) (eeprom 0x08) Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: tveeprom 0-0050: audio processor is MSP3445 (idx 12) Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: tveeprom 0-0050: decoder processor is SAA7115 (idx 19) Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: tveeprom 0-0050: has radio, has IR remote Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: tuner 0-0061: type set to 43 (Philips NTSC MK3 (FM1236MK3 or FM1236/F)) Jan 23 20:22:22 rickmvnote kernel: Adding 377992k swap on /dev/hda2.
