In the mean time, this weekend I'm going to try something that it just occurred to me was within my reach: use KVM to encapsulate each device. Thus, if they bork, I only restart a "small"(ish) VM instead of the whole box. I just need to figure out a way to block the host from starting up the devices. Blacklisting pvrusb2 didn't seem to work, so I may have to simply remove the module altogether. But I'll try that in the weekend. Cheers!
