Dear Ward,

First: I understand that you do not have hard feelings about Swiki's.

Your idea for a WikiWikiWeb is great, like lots of your ideas in the past.
But this Swiki-thing is about having ideas and selling ideas to ordinary
web-people...

(The most famous example on this theme is the invention of the Mac: In a
BBC-interview the inventor of the Mac (I forgot his name) said personally
for the camera that he saw the idea for the Mac during a bus-tour-visit at
Xerox-Parc. (I presume he saw the Star?)First he created the Lisa, it was a
selling-desaster, at the end we even got some for free, and then...

So lets compare your selling-approach with that of Mark:
- The WIKIWIKI idea - a beaty in simplicity - is yours (point for you)
- By coincedence I found a Swiki on the web (no points for either of you)
- Reading the About in the HelpGuide of the Swiki, Mark gives you all the
credits.(point for Mark) but he did not implement a Hyperlink to your
WIKI-site (withdraw one point from Mark)
- Feeding a search-engine with WIKI + Cunningham I find your site (no
points, I did the work)
- If I try to download and setup a wiki site I have to be an web-engineer, I
am not (no points for you)
- If I try to download and setup a swiki I unzip a file and start the
server... Woow!! (point for Mark)
So it ends in a draw.. (Question: will you have a wiki-zipfile for windows
in the future?)

The same can you say about selling the Squeak community (I am answering you
on their list, so take this sidestep): Creating nice stuff and selling it to
ordinary web-people are two things. I think that Squeakland is the best try
for the moment, I hope it will grow faster and faster.
(Squeak-adepts have their own elegant sharing project-sites, but I do not
have enough knowledge (or freetime?) to tackle that yet. (What I try as a
beginner is scanning this list for websites and buzz-words I can feed to my
search engine, finding marvellous ideas of others... like your Wiki.

Ok. Thanks.
I just mention it because I do care. Best regards to all. -- Ward
