Hm, that features been there a long time, the lack of control for 
experienced devs is annoying and beginners aren't likely to see much 
benefit out of it. Maybe the process should be made more transparent and 
the recommended usage in the documentation updated, like having to provide 
an existing altas to resource.image?

atlas = pyglet.image.altas.TextureAtlas(2048,2048)
pyglet.resource.image('image.png',altas=atlas)
pyglet.resource.image('image2.png',altas=atlas)

At least then you know where everything is, what your dealing with, and 
whats doing what.
