with the PySide 0.4.0 and PySide Mobility 0.1.0 releases successfully
done, we're working hard to get the final platforms supported and enough
bugs squashed to finally make the 1.0 release.
This is what's going on during the current two-week sprint (begun last
Thursday):
Embarrassingly enough, there were some packaging issues on the Qt
Mobility packages. Specifically, the Maemo packages didn't include the
Messaging and PublishSubscribe APIs, even though the bindings for them
exist. This is being fixed and new packages will be released ASAP. In
addition to this, some of the examples for the bindings were already
broken, utilizing the old API or having fallen victim to some other
changes. These are being fixed right now as well.
Python 3 support has been investigated. I put the results on the wiki
pages [1]. According to the investigation, support is doable but does
require some effort. Having discussed the matter with the team, we've
tentatively agreed to make this post-1.0 material. It's something
important to have but at the moment we regard bugfixing as well as the
remaining platform ports higher priority. We'd like to hear your
opinions on this, however!
Windows porting work is ongoing. The bindings were made to compile
already earlier, but for some reason, they didn't import cleanly so far.
Now, this work has resumed. We hope to have a functional Windows port by
the end of this sprint. If you're a Windows developer and want to give a
hand, chime in on the #pyside IRC channel at FreeNode.
Not really part of PySide, but still worth mentioning - part of the team
is now working on getting MeeGo Touch Framework bindings done using the
PySide generator tools. MTF is the Qt GraphicsView-based widget set that
powers the MeeGo platform, and we intend to have the bindings done by
the end of this week.
Last but not least, there's again a great deal of bugfixing going on. We
hope to catch as many as possible so that we can finally make the 1.0
release! If you find any issues you suspect is a bug in PySide, file a
bug in our Bugzilla [2].
