Jeffrey Yasskin added the comment: I think Rational should handle all floating types as consistently as possible, whatever their radix or precision. It's unlikely that people will convert from them often anyway, especially from Decimal, so the shorter conversion from Decimal doesn't seem to outweigh the extra complexity in the constructor's behavior. If I turn out to be wrong about this, we can revisit it in 3.1.
