discussion on a given issue is reliably recorded, then
email replies ought to be archived under the relevant
ticket automatically.

As Martin sad, replies work.  Michael was mistaken in thinking you have
to go to the tracker to post a followup (I initially did not know I
could just hit reply either).

You can even open new tickets via email, but I've never tried that.
