I'm not trying to redefine the word "monotonic" in general. All I'm saying is that *if* the PEP is going to talk about a "monotonic clock" or "monotonic time", it should clearly define what this means, because it's not obvious to everyone that it implies something more than the mathematical meaning. Alternatively, don't use the word "monotonic" at all, and find a better term.

Which doesn't help very much, because it talks about "monotonic time" without saying what that means. Googling for that phrase doesn't seem turn up anything very useful.
