What's the difference between watching a television programme called "Useless Celebrity Factoids" for half an hour and spending the same amount of time studying for an exam involving useful information where you might also need to show some level of understanding of the subject matter? If that's not comparing similar measures of information, what's the difference between studying for an exam in a subject whose prerequisites are familiar to you and studying for one in an unfamiliar field, both for the same amount of time?
