I think this (and such) are important questions and I too await answers. It seems that these questions are poorly dealt with in the python docs probably because the docs try hard to be generic wrt OS and this is an area where such 'genericity' confuses more than it helps. -- http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/python-list
