In my defense, the entire traceback was red. :-) It's quite possible that GCC colorized its error/warning messages, but colorizing might have been suppressed by stderr being fed into a pipe, or by distutils tossing it out. Skip -- https://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/python-list
