well, to be exact I did not 'propose' a web server ;)
I just asked whether anybody has some knowledge about building
interfaces the HTML et al way.

I use 'hotot' for casual twittering from the desktop, which I regard the
best twitter/identi.ca client for linux.

It's python, but the whole interface lives within webkit, with lots of
javascript support. Though it's a young project they already managed to
go win & osx. Of course portability is a topic we should discuss. And
yes, there a pros and cons ;)

I once (one year ago or so) explained what I'd like to see in pytrainer
(e.g. more calendar centric views, planning features, maybe calendar
integration etc.). But as David already said, gtk/glade slow things
down. Every little change is poured concrete and has to be planned very,
very well.
