You can remove one or more nodes by selecting them - they become blue - and then you hit the delete key.

A double click adds a node.

But there is no way to extend and already digitized line beyond the end. This functionality needs to be added.

Well, as far as I tried, you cannot remove a single node.

And to add one, double-click seems to add a node (there is a cross
drawn), but you cannot move it, and it is added in the wrong segment.
