the missing FPU can make a very big difference, it is heavilly used
for example for font rendering. Also some more esoteric aplications
may not work correctly because the FPU emulation in the linux kernel 
is not yet complete.

Btw the 2.4 kernels are now pretty mature, they are available by CVS at 
linux-m68k-cvs.apia.dhs.org, see also http://linux-m68k-cvs.apia.dhs.org/

They should compile out of the box given the right config and 
compiler>=2.91.66. Modutils and ppp must be upgraded for these kernels.
There are a few niceties like UDF filesystem and 'mount -t bind' for the
experts. Packet writing to CD-RW still requires a kernel patch.
