strange. Did you use mkpart before?

it could have been created by accident. Another possibility,
atari partitioning scheme has extremely little information
(redundancy) to tell valid partitioned disk apart from garbage,
Maybe some garbage present on the disk was misinterpreted.

In any case it is safe to delete this, 'dd </dev/zero count=1 >/dev/hdX'
might be a good idea.
