I'm guessing here, but it's possible that there may be a difference between menu_rext versions here.
More recent menu_rext's allow slightly different parameters for some of the menus. I don't know if Rich Mellor includes menu_rext with QHelp - if he does it ought to be the right version for the program. If you've bought disks from Roy Wood of QBranch or Jochen Merz you could have a look through those disks for a copy of menu_rext and try whatever version you might find just in case it has anything to do with the different versions. I seem to remember you said it worked on a QL system you had, so you must have a copy of the right versions somewhere for that to work (unless of course you no longer have those QL disks now you're using an emulator). A good number of programs (freeware and commercial) use menu_rext extensions from Jochen Merz, so it is useful software to have in its own right, especially if you wish to write simple pointer programs of your own - menu_rext lets you write programs which can include file selection menus, directory selection menus, list selection menus and so on. A lot of free programs use it and don't actually include menu_rext because IIRC a royalty is payable for supplying it. They assume most people who've bought software from people like Roy and Jochen will already have a copy of menu_rext. In rare cases, some programs do use facilities only available in newer menu_rext versions. I'm sure Rich will be able to help with this one if you can tell him if the error message gives a specific line number so that he can have a look at the program sources to see what might be going wrong. As to your earlier comments about the clarity of Linux, what little Linux coding I've seen scares the hell out of me.
