That simply reflects the fact that some distributions delete the data on reboot. As the only user writeable path in the system is /tmp it's the place to go. And on my system this does not get nuked every reboot. Thus if Ubuntu users think they need a special path I am happy to accept a patch. This is OpenSource not a one way road.
