Hello to Oliver and all of You, as a new subscriber to this mailinglist I want to briefly introduce myself. My name is Michael and I live at Lake Chiemsee in Bavaria. Until now I used some obsolete gear (Garmin eTrex Yellow and Legend, without H) and software (Fugawi3), unless I bought a Satmap Active 10 and downloaded QLandkarteGT (sorry, no Linux- my PC is running on WinXP). I also know programs like MapSource, BaseCamp, VantagePoint and OziExplorer (Demo) a little bit. I am not really into computers or even programming; just a user who wants to thank you for your great work and enthusiasm.
Here is my first question: Where do you get your raster-maps from? Do I have to create GeoTiffs by myself? I have managed to load some of my old BSB and ECW maps an opened a couple of WMS already, but I`ve also got the Top50 of Bavarian Landesvermessungsamt, some MagicMaps-products and the Kompass 3D Österreich. Is there any (of course, legal) way to install this maps into QLGt? As you would probably see later on, I`ve got also heaps of vectormaps- but that is not a problem at all, they run very fine. The second item is this: I`ve also got a folder with lots of PNG&worldfiles. Sorry about that, but I cannot remeber which source I downloaded them from- maybe the ESRI-website? In order to make cailbrating (at that time, for Fugawi) easier and faster, I set up an OpenOffice-document called "Worldfile-Editor" and reorganized it now for the use with QLandkarteGT. The file could be downloaded from here: http://www.file-upload.net/download-3933947/Worldfile-Editor-QLandkarte.ods.html I hope, the picture attached to it would explain how it should work. Everyone should feel free to download, use, share, change and improve it, but plaese reply your changes. There are some bugs/ to does in there: - As I want to use the German language and local settings, I couldn`t figure out until now how to format these cells that should be copied to QLandkarteGT with a dot instead of comma as decimal separator. The only way seems to change the settings for the whole document to English. Is there a better way? - Althogh it`s a great relief to just copy and paste the coordinates line by line instead of typing them in, it would be even better if you could copy the whole 4 lines at once (maybe also with the x-/y-pixel-counts?). Probably that is nothing I can do, but there have to be changes made in QLandkarte itself- or is there another solution? - The calculation is based just on simple formulas an doesn`t work with rotated pictures, whereas I have never seen worldfile-maps with other values than zero in the rotation lines 2 and 3 until now. But if there were any geometry-freaks around here, this feature to handle rotated maps could be added, too.
