In case you're still trying to get maps from OSM to work, you might
want to look into the various maps that people have generated from the
data at OSM. See for example:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Offline_Openstreetmap

The OSM interface allows you to create small sub-maps but for larger
ones (over 50k nodes) you have to find larger maps for download
(planet.osm.org has huge ones, but there are various country-wide ones
for download that are very useful).

You may have to convert these to whatever format your device uses.

Personally, I'd love to see better OSM support on QLGT, but I think
I've already begged for too many features and should probably focus my
wish-list. ;-)
