Hi Dave,

personally I do not think a smartphone is a suitable match for a real outdoor
GPS if it comes to real outdoor activities. But in general all devices that can
be attached to the PC as USB storage should be fine with QLGT. Provided that
the application used on the phone stores it's data as GPX files. Afaik Locus
can do and will accept offline maps in TwoNav RMAP format. QLGT can convert
raster maps into RMAP.

As the G in GPS stands for "Global", I do not see a reason why a GPS is not
able to derive a position everywhere. It's more the telephone network part that
is a country specific thing. Some GPS receivers (AGPS) need a telco network to
get a fix fast. If there is no network they take a long time or never manage.
But a pure GPS device should be fine everywhere.

The Motorola Defy is told to be a nice device. However I doubt it's GPS
receiver compares with a unit like the GPSMap62s. There is just a physical
difference between a nice external quadhelix antenna compared to a patch
antenna between a screen, a circuit board and a screen. Additional the battery
time for a smartphone is poor compared to a dedicated outdoor GPS.

HTH
