Hi Dave,

I understand your requirement but parallel map view really break the concept of 
the GUI.

Giving the views a name is something I can consider. Best you open an issue at 
Bitbucket else I might forget about it.

If I want to compare maps I usually use the slider for transparency in the 
map's properties. Maybe that is an option for you, too.
