i also use this way, but i have /var/qmail/rc in my /etc/inittab with
respawn. this makes no difference i mean. if all permissions in your
/var/qmail/control and recursive right, then i dont have an idea which is
the reason for this logmessage :(

the ldap-server is reachable?
