Hi Matthias,

    Verify if your /etc/resolv.conf is correct. If a nameserver service is closed, 
qmail-send spent some time to delivery a email and maybe cause a timeout to resolve MX 
domain.
    Verify if you have a network problem with qmail-tcpto to verifiy conection 
timeouts and "qmail-qread|grep remote|grep -v done|sort" to see the queue.
