For next release (20031001) we plan for smtp-auth, smtp-rcptcheck and smtp-sendercheck. That would make life easier for you. Now if you would tell us about the your other little tweaks, we could have a look at them too.
Ok, here is one that I haven't actually written, but am seriously thinking about.
How about a bouncequeuelifetime that is different from the normal queuelifetime? I am sick of having forged bounce messages clogging up the queue. My reasoning is that if a message is sent with a legitimate return address, it should be able to bounce back to that mail server immediately. (after all, it was probably sent from the same mail server...)
I was going to implement this by modifying the date on the info/ file created on a bounce message to be some (queuelifetime - bouncequeuelifetime) time in the past so that the bounce message would legitimately expire with the normal queuelifetime rules.
