Actually, the routing is built into qmail-ldap.. Basically, each pop box can be stored on a different server in the cluster. When you create the account in LDAP, you set the mailHost attribute.
When the user gets mail, it is internally routed to the correct server. If the Maildir directory doesn't exist yet, it is created. If you read the qmail-ldap docs, it goes over how this works.
