Howdy list, Mr. Haar,

I noticed that the qmail-scanner FAQ page is now
claiming that qmail-scanner doesn't work with vpopmail:

I beg to differ. It works just fine with vpopmail. I'm
running it on a production server with vpopmail right now:

qmail-scanner-1.20
vpopmail-5.2.1

In fact, vpopmail has absolutely nothing to do with it.
vpopmail runs AFTER qmail, not before it. I've worked
a little with the devel versions of vpopmail too, and
I don't see how they could possibly interfere with
qmail-scanner either.

Hi,

I've been through this with Jason before (a year ago? more?) and I *think* the problem that some people MIGHT be experiencing is related to pop-before-smtp and the tcp.smtp entries that vpopmail creates WITHOUT the QMAILQUEUE env variable.

This of course only affects QS scanning for your users who pop-before-smtp and does not affect any incoming mail from other servers or email clients from other IP's.

If Jason wishes, I can write up an entry for the FAQ covering this so we can remove the very false impression that QS and vpopmail do not play nice together, when the case is that 99.9% of the time they do, and when they don't it is your own users email outbound that does not get scanned.

I've also CC'd Tom Collins of vpopmail fame to see if he would like me to open a bugzilla ticket about this. I'm sure we could add a --with-qmailqueue= configuration option that would allow vpopmail to correctly create the entries in the tcp.smtp file.

Regards,

Rick
