Ah. Yes. I forget sometimes that other people don't patch their vpopmail code for simple things like this. I can see how this would be a major problem for users with a binary package of vpopmail (RPM, .deb, port, whatever). > This of course only affects QS scanning for your users who > pop-before-smtp and does not affect any incoming mail from other servers > or email clients from other IP's. Yeah. Even employees can get viruses though. And with the massive influx of laptops in the workplace the threat becomes worse- bypassing firewalls, etc... > If Jason wishes, I can write up an entry for the FAQ covering this so we > can remove the very false impression that QS and vpopmail do not play > nice together, when the case is that 99.9% of the time they do, and when > they don't it is your own users email outbound that does not get scanned. > > I've also CC'd Tom Collins of vpopmail fame to see if he would like me > to open a bugzilla ticket about this. You know, I've been thinking a lot about this lately (I had to debug a problem with my tcp rules today), and I think it might be helpful to define an additional vpopmail configuration file (could be converted into a DBM or CDB database for quick real-time lookups) for pop-before-smtp environment variables. Something like this: var=value var2=value2 etc... After all, nobody wants to recompile vpopmail AND everything downstream of vpopmail each time you change the pop-before-smtp environment vars... Anyway, I can see why the FAQ entry is in there now. I DON'T think it should be stated the way it is, but I see the need for SOMETHING documenting the issue.
