Bingo. THANKS!  what i now have is:

exec env - PATH="/var/qmail/bin:$PATH" \
qmail-start ./Maildir/ multilog t s5000000 /export/home/qmaillogs

(since /var's permissions didn't look inviting)

now how might i pipe this thru tai64nlocal to get some readable
(by me) time stamps in there?
