Hi Mark,   maildirmake is not a shell command. Give him the path (it should be in /var/qmail/bin/ ). Anyway, most docs suggest to create Maildir in /etc/skel. Have a look at the interesting http://pws.prserv.net/truemax/OS/Qmail.html and "Life with Qmail".
