Try upgrading your multitail package. That seems to be a really old version; on my Cent 4.6 box I have:
multitail-4.2.0-1.el4.rf And on my Fedora Core 4 machine I have: multitail-4.2.0-1.fc4 So I'm not sure how you got version 3.8.7.
