The root problem is this:
"local.mk:14: could not find kernel config file. internal auto-config may fail make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.18-128.1.6.el5/build: No such file or directory. Stop.

The make file isn't able to find the kernel config file for some reason.

Does /lib/modules/2.6.18-128.1.6.el5/build exist on your machine? If so, what's it pointing to, and does that directory exist? (On my machine it's a symlink to /usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-128.1.14.el5-i686).

Eric,

Sorry, meaning the message from the initial email I sent, which follows:

"uname -a" says the following plus my hostname:

"2.6.18-128.1.6.el5 #1 SMP Wed Apr 1 09:19:18 EDT 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux"

Jake,

Sorry to sound like the newb, but how exactly do you run the update process manually? Do you mean running each package update individually?

Thanks for all your help

Steve

After reinstalling QMT5-ISO from scratch, with no modifications except turning off the firewall and setting up the IP address I get the exact same errors. When I run newmodel it only asks the following question, then errors out with the previously mentioned error:
"Would you like a unioned sandbox (quicker, smaller) [y]/n:"

And which previously mentioned error would that be?

I've tried "yum update kernel" & "kernel-devel" and they both say "No Packages marked for Update". Also "yum install kernel-devel" says "Package kernel-devel-2.6.18-128.1.16.el5.i686 already installed and latest version
Nothing to do"
All this happening on both machines.

Did you reboot so that the currently running kernel corresponds to the latest one installed? What does
# uname -a
say?

Hi Steve,
Run this:
yum update kernel
and
yum update kernel-devel
Reboot
Then run qtp-newmodel…
Hope your error is solved.

And be sure to install kernel-devel if it's not already.
