You are right, but I was thinking about automating it on the server
rather than on the user side.
Once the e-mail is sent to the server, it gets automatically archived to
the sent folder.
I can live with if the message sending fails, it's not archived.
The point being is if the message sent, it will be 100% in the send
folder, i.e. all outgoing correspondence is saved.

Message copying is done using IMAP. Two different channels.
Besides if you relay on SMTP to achive the message to the SENT box
then if SMTP fails it will not have archive of the mail in SENT folder.
So it would be design wise wrong anyways.
