hi

there are no rejections as such

i believe softlimit is the total memory allocated for running the pop3
service, is this correct ?

I don't think so. I think the softlimit applies to each connection.

i have around max 90 connections at a time

if i raise it to say 50 mb is there any problem that can come up ?

I don't think so, but why?

What problem are you trying to address?

I presume you're using qmail's pop3 and not dovecot's. Have you tried using dovecot's pop3?

my server has 4 gb of ram with less than 1 gb being used

That should be plenty. I hope you're running a 64-bit processor so you can use it all.

How much of your swap space is used? Next to none, I presume. Have you done any memory tuning, like adding vm.swappiness = 0 to your /etc/sysctl.conf file? What does "free" typically show?

hi

i have a very busy email server

during peak times the number of simultaneous pop3 connections go between
75 - 90 simultaneous connections

my current softlimit in the pop3/run file is 9000000 ie 9 mb

do i need to increase the softlimit for pop3 ?

Perhaps.
How much memory does each connection take?
Are you seeing any rejections in the pop3-ssl (or pop3) log?
