Additional question. Have you ever googled?

Here is one page I found regarding doku wiki and PDF.

I don't know why it's that important to print a whole book.

The problem with documentation on a wiki is that it's not usable when you're
offline. That means if you want to do some development while on an airplane
or otherwise while traveling, you have no way to look at the documentation.
When I travel, I print the manual for what I'm working on, so I have it for
reference. *That* is what is important about being able to print the whole
book.

Generally I would think to move each big topic (1.x, 2.x and not 1.1.x) to a
separate page and build an index of them. To print them out should work
almost perfect. To convert them to PDF and combine them is also possible. I
don't think we need an always up-to-date PDF, so this process is only needed
each 6 month for example (or with each new major release.)

I disagree. It should be possible to print (easily, without extensive
combination efforts!) the latest (current) version of the documentation.

I don't understand why the usage of plugins has any impact on the decision to
use a wiki or not to use a wiki.

It is unfortunate (for printing purposes) that there are additional plugins in
use. Each plugin has its own renderer. That means that the changes made to
render the standard docuwiki core features to some alternate form (e.g. to
docbook, pdf, etc.) will not have effect on most plugins. They, too, must be
modified to render to the alternate form.

Although I have these (pretty serious) concerns regarding not currently being
able to print the complete manual, I believe that the wiki is the right place
to develop the documentation. It allows multiple people to be working on it,
and it is always up-to-date with the most recent edits. At some point when I
get a chance, I'll write renderers to generate some alternate useful form.
