If you need the new features that were added to the namespaces branch 
and are not available in 0.5.3, well, you don't have a choice. If the 
alternative virtual list view is ok (QxListView), 0.5.3 might still be 
an option.

There have been many improvements compared to 0.5.x. I'll post an 
overview to the homepage later. The way you use widgets and most of the 
api, or how qooxdoo supports event-based programming, haven't changed 
that dramatically.

The namespaces branch should currently be fairly stable, i.e. the build 
process for api viewer, demos and framework itself should produce valid 
results. "Stable enough" clearly depends on your requirements, though. 
There are certainly risks or trade-offs in using a (often fast) changing 
development branch rather than the current official release. If you are 
curios and into experimenting/learning, the bleeding-edge qooxdoo would 
just be fine.
