To point 1:
I don't see why would you need to have back-button or history. The principles of a qooxdoo application are other than we know them from the web1.0 pages. Qooxdoo tries to build a app with windows look&feel, and you don't have back-button or history in windows, do you?

Our desktop application has back button and history, and we have a requirement 
to implement that in our AJAX version. So at some stage I'll be looking for 
either the qooxdoo support for this, or bringing in third-party scripts to 
implement it. Obviously I would like to have it native in qooxdoo.

I don't see any simple or elegant way to implement this. The idea of AJAX and qooxdoo are others than we know them from web1.0. So i think you will to implement this yourself in your app.
