Cygwin is already quite up-to-date. 2.4.3 is a lot better than previous versions. The remaining factor of 8 of this version for the string concatition only partly affects the compiler step. I don't think that, under then known list of items we need to do this qualifies enough. The tokenizer, treegenerator, optimizers, etc. don't profit from this optimizations. I think there are other areas which could mean performance improvements, too.
