This sounds a lot like something is calling console.log or otherwise
referencing the variable console. With firebug enabled, are there any
messages displayed on the firebug console? The behavior you describe is
exactly what happens when the console variable is accessed in Firefox when
there is no console variable defined, as is the case when Firebug is not
enabled.
