Rather than create a new JIRA, I'll just add other things relevevant to the
distribution directory maven build here.
The distribution pom.xml does not inherit from the parent pom. The means that
running clean and then assembly:directory in the parent directory does not
result in a clean distribution being built. Make distribution pom inherit from
the parent pom unless there is a good reason not to.
