The DSN extensions allow you to indicate that you want non-default behavior, such as only returning the headers on bounced mail (that can cut down on useless traffic) and give you the ability to attach unique IDs, which can be incredibly useful when operating a mailing list. But when sites disable DSN support, this isn't possible.
