OK, I've changed to "User smtpd" in /etc/clamd/conf.

It seems to work OK now.

I'm actually migrating to a new server, and on the old server I was running clamd as root (User line commented out). smtpd is better than root!

Thanks. I can therefore report that the latest CVS version is working OL for me.
