Hi folks,

At last, i've completed first release of sheff daemon, mostly. But still there are some jobs.

- Sheff is running just on FreeBSD OS. I'll port it linux and solaris. It won't take more than 1 week.
- Needs some extra efforts for hash table. Just one night.
- It needs some tweaks to be MTA-independent. This will be available after stable version, it is not hurry.(Remember, this is generic spam daemon. It is written also for Postfix, Sendmail and others...)

First running beta release is available at http://www.enderunix.org/sheff/

At this time you can test it for FreeBSD. What you can test?
- Functionality. Is it work as expected?
- Bugs. Buffer overflows, memory leaks and so...

What is new with sheff daemon?

Exactly I don't know complete list ;) After tests, i'll read all my cvs logs and report it with the stable version. But at least i remember followings.

- Daemonized engine as you expect :)
- Internal ClamAv scanner. (You don't need to execute clamdscan or clamscan, more performance..)
- Support for 2nd antivirus.
- Full regular expression support for both subject and body rules (some guys will be happy with this feature.
- Different behaviours for local domains.
- Quarantine for spams. Deep directory structure for enterprise usages.
- Backup chance.
- More security. (Running under sheff user, all directories are hidden to other users) - UNIX socket. Doesn't allow connection from outside. For that, more secure. Closed for remote attackers.
- Checking for email adress format.
- Tagging support for spams. It can alter subjects and add [SPAM] tag. Delivers tagged mail to user Trash.

And some additional features i forgot.

And all features from qsheff... I'll publish complete list with the stable release.

I need beta testers for FreeBSD. If you have a useless machine, please test it and inform me about the results.

Note: There is a silly installation script in tarball. install.sh. You can use it. I am sorry, there is no documentation for now. Please send your questions to me individually.

Thanks and regards,
